Project scheduling for Oracle APEX

Gantt Chart

See the whole project. Know what is at risk. Act before it slips. A full project schedule that lives inside your Oracle APEX application, with parent and child tasks, predecessors and successors, milestones and a live critical path.

Try it yourself

A working project schedule

This is the real chart, running on sample data. Change a start or end date in the grid and watch the bars, the summary rows and the critical path respond. Zoom in and out, switch the critical path and dependency lines on and off, or open it full screen. Changes here are for trying out and are not saved.

Why teams choose it

Stop guessing when the project will finish

Most schedules fail quietly. A date slips, nobody sees the knock-on effect, and the first anyone hears of it is the deadline. The Gantt Chart puts the answer in front of everyone, all the time.

Know your real finish date

The critical path is worked out for you and shown in red. You see the chain of tasks that sets the end date, and where a single lost day is a lost day for the whole project.

Spot risk while it is cheap to fix

Tasks with float show in blue with the days they can slip. Tasks with none are flagged. You know where to look before a problem becomes a delay.

One plan everyone reads the same way

Sponsors, managers and delivery teams look at one schedule with one set of dates. No more competing spreadsheets or slides that are out of date by Monday.

Explain a delay with evidence

Every task shows what it waits for. When something moves, you can point to the exact link that caused it, and have a calm conversation about the fix.

Headline dates that cannot drift

Summary tasks take their dates from the tasks beneath them, so the phase view and the detailed view always agree.

Built on your own data

It reads from your own Oracle tables through a simple query, so the schedule is part of your application and follows your security, not a separate tool to buy, host and keep in sync.

What you get

Everything a project schedule needs

A complete, readable Gantt chart without the weight of a heavy desktop planning tool.

Work breakdown structure

Numbered parent and child tasks (1, 1.1, 1.2 ...) so a large programme reads as a few headline phases that open up into detail.

Predecessors and successors

Dependency lines run from the end of one task to the start of the next. Critical links show in red. A link that has been broken by a date change turns orange and dashed.

Milestones

Key dates such as kick-off, design approved or go-live appear as diamonds, so the moments the project is held to stand out.

Hammock tasks

Support and management work that runs alongside delivery takes its dates from two other tasks, so it always spans exactly the period it covers.

Editable dates for what-if planning

Start and end dates sit in the grid beside the bars. Change them to test a scenario and see the picture respond straight away.

Today line, zoom and full screen

A marked line shows where you are today. Zoom from a whole-programme view down to individual weeks, or open the chart full screen for a meeting.

Getting started

Up and running in three steps

It is a region type for Oracle APEX, so adding it looks the same as adding any other region.

1

Point it at your tasks Your data

Write a query that returns your tasks: an id, a name, start and end dates, and optionally the parent, predecessors, milestone and hammock flags.

  • A SQL query
  • Your existing tables or a view
2

Add the region to a page In APEX

Choose the Gantt Chart region type, paste the query, and run the page. The chart, the grid and the critical path appear.

  • One region
  • No extra components to install
3

Let the team use it Your team

Everyone sees the same schedule, straight from the live data, inside the application they already sign in to.

  • Always current
  • Follows your APEX security
Who it is for

Made for people who are accountable for dates

If you have ever been asked "are we still on track?" and had to go and check, this is for you.

It suits any project with stages, dependencies and deadlines, from a facility build to a systems roll-out.

  • Project and programme managers who need to see risk early and explain it clearly
  • PMOs who want one consistent way to show every project
  • Delivery and engineering leads who plan work with real dependencies
  • Executives and sponsors who want the headline dates without the detail, and the detail when they ask
  • Oracle APEX teams who want scheduling inside their own application
Reading the chart

Clear at a glance, no training needed

Position shows when, length shows how long, and colour shows whether a task can slip.

  • Black bar with end caps: a summary task that groups the tasks beneath it
  • Blue bar: a task with float, which can slip a little without moving the finish date
  • Red bar: a critical task, where any delay moves the finish date
  • Orange diamond: a milestone, a date rather than a task
  • Striped bar: a hammock, with dates taken from two other tasks
  • Arrow lines: dependencies, drawn from the end of one task to the start of the next
  • Dashed vertical line: today
